"If this book had been available when my colleagues and I were grappling with the intricacies of Neuroscience, I have no doubt it would have eased our way into the subject more smoothly. This is ideally suited to the pre-clinical student needing to get to grips with complicated subjects - fast.To quote from the English Philosopher, Francis Bacon: 'Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested.' A place in the latter category is certainly commanded by 'Neuroscience at a Glance' ! Guy's Gazette/2000

Minor emergencies

Today I am introducing this emergency manual which will help you to manage emergencies on the spot. It is a 856 pages paper back book which you can buy at Amazon book store for $ 54.49.

Following is a review I just read about this book.

This book is a fantastic resource for all Emergency & Primary Care physicians. It goes through the management of the "simple" stuff like nasal foreign body, dystonic reactions, fingertip avulsions, nursemaids elbow, tick removal, clavicular fracture etc etc etc. Most of the topics are 2-3 pages of big type and usually with pictures & the important stuff is boldfaced. More importantly there is a "what not to do" section with every chapter.
On the downside some of the antibiotic recommendations seem somewhat out of date but that's what Sanford is for, so all in all I think that is a minor point.

kaplan and sadock's comprehensive textbook of psychiatry

I mentioned about Kaplan and Sadock's comprehensive text book of Psychiatry, 10 th edition in the previous post. Yes in my experience reading this book was too much for me. Kaplan and Sadock's Synopsis of Psychiatry - Tenth Edition

Kaplan and Sadock''s synopsis of psychiatry - 10th edition. My first encounter with Kaplan and Sadock's Psychiatry book is was not a happy experience. Yeah It was the Kaplan and Sadock's Text book of psychiatry. Today I am presenting this book which is different from the text book, synopsis of Psychiatry has always being my ultimate reference for my unsoloved psychitry questions.

Yes this book is really helpful and this is one of the book in the referral book list in many of the license and board exams. It has almot every topic covered comprehensively but very clearly in clinical psychiatry. As this is a USA based book, it has used DSM iv instead of ICD 10. But at relevant places it shows the differences between two diagnostic criteria.

If you are finding hard how to remember various defensive mechanisms which is a frequently tested topic in USMLE and LMCC exams, reading this book will be the only solution.

Following is the book description given at Amazon:
The best-selling general psychiatry text since 1972, Kaplan and Sadock's Synopsis of Psychiatry is now in its thoroughly updated Tenth Edition. This complete, concise overview of the entire field of psychiatry is a staple board review text for psychiatry residents and is popular with a broad range of students in medicine, clinical psychology, social work, nursing, and occupational therapy, as well as practitioners in all these areas. The book is DSM-IV-TR compatible and replete with case studies and tables, including ICD-10 diagnostic coding tables. You will also receive access to the complete, fully searchable online text, an online test bank of approximately 100 multiple-choice questions and full answers, and an online image bank at www.synopsisofpsychiatry.com.

This is a 1472 pages book with paper back. At the time of my search this book was priced in Amazon book store at $80.19 with free shipping (Super saving shipping). Hope we will get a link from downloading site soon in the comment box soon.

Aging and the Gastrointestinal Tract

Book Description
With the dramatic increase of the aging population, the study and care of gastrointestinal disorders in the elderly have become priority topics for both clinicians and researchers. The geriatric approach which includes the epidemiology and pharmacokinetics of drugs as well as a comprehensive multidimensional assessment is particularly important in managing older patients with gastrointestinal disorders, since these patients are likely to have multiple interacting problems that interfere with their daily function and complicate their treatment. This book presents the results of recent studies in geriatric gastroenterology and reviews both basic and clinical aspects of the field. An important section is devoted to the close examination of the structural and functional effects of aging on the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract. Recent advances in diagnostic tools and the treatment of elderly patients with dysphagia and gastroesophageal reflux disease as well as with NSAID-related or Helicobacter pylori-associated gastroduodenal diseases are reported in updated chapters. The physician's approach to the management of disorders of the small intestine, colon, pancreas and liver is discussed, highlighting the specific aspects of such disorders in old age. As it is important that the geriatric assessment of elderly patients is carried out by a multidisciplinary team which includes experienced specialists as well as primary care physicians and community health workers, the book addresses a wide readership: general physicians, specialists in geriatrics and gastroenterology and health care providers involved in planning care for elderly patients with gastrointestinal disorders.

Davidson's Principles and Practice of Medicine

The textbook has come a long way since the first edition in 1952 but remains true to its original ideals. One of the most praiseworthy features is the double-page spread on clinical examination preceding each of the systems. It has many strenghts, clear and logical layout, pithy and relevant information (with plenty of information boxes to highlight the most salient points), well-chosen photographs and beautiful illustrations. You will continue to gaze longingly thorugh the bookshop window until you have a copy of your own.

Book Description

Management of Acute Kidney Problems

Acute kidney failure is an important clinical area in the intensive care unit setting. An estimated 5–20% of critically ill patients experience an episode of acute kidney failure during the course of their illness, and about 5% of patients admitted to an ICU will eventually require renal replacement therapy. In these patients, in-hospital mortality is extremely high, exceeding 50%. Thus, the early detection and causal treatment of acute kidney problems is vitally important for a successful outcome. Written by internationally renowned experts, this clinical reference offers helpful advice with the most recent information on the definition, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical causes of acute kidney failure as a fundamental prerequisite for prevention of this disorder. Moreover, it also covers differential diagnostic approaches for patients with acute renal failure and provides a detailed outline of important measures for their clinical management. Finally, separate chapters are dedicated to various key aspects related to the adequate delivery of acute renal replacement therapy. It is intended as a helpful guide for all clinicians involved in the care of patients at risk of developing acute kidney problems.
